AIR ELEMENT 

The air element is one of the five elements that are used to cure the human body in naturopathy. Also known as the “panchmahabhootas”, they exist in nature just like they exist in the body. The proportion of these elements in nature is similar to that in the human body. The air element has two qualities “Shabd” and “Sparsh”. Sound and touch respectively.  

 

 

 

The air element is symbolized by the index finger. This element is responsible for the function of circulation on the planet and in the body for overall functioning of organs. It contains a lot of energy and is also responsible for speed.  

Naturopathy is a system of living more than it is a medicinal practice. Traditionally, the way of living was simpler than what it is now. Free of junk and ready to eat unhealthy, processed food. There are medicines available for the smallest inconveniences, but they can have an adverse effect on our health and cause side effects. They provide instant relief but do nothing to cure the root cause.  

Sunbathing early in the morning, a healthy diet and natural exercise were practices of the past and should be preached in the present as well. We are gaining more knowledge and moving toward natural remedies to get rid of the unnecessary medicinal inculcation in our lives and cure diseases in a better manner.  

It is essential to consume food without drastically changing its composition. Not doing do destroys the crucial nutrition it has to offer. Doing so will nourish your body as well as its internal organs.  

Some of its features include: 

  • Within 10-15 years of age is when this element is most dominant. We might sustain without the other elements for a while, but it is not possible to go on without the air element.  

  • Since the element is made of sky, the color of the element is blue or slightly green. 

  • Air element resides in the “Anahata” or heart chakra (which is green) of the body.   

  • Green signifies intelligence, depth and discretion.  

  • It has a bitter taste. 

  • Its direction is north.  

  • It is situated near the naval 

  • An excess in its proportion in the body causes dryness, arthritis and mental health issues 

  • When the air element is balanced in the body, we become emotional, calm and composed. We foster a certain pride on our face. We become mentally stable and physically healthier. You get a feeling of independence because of the same.  

  • The efficiency of our work and the qualities that define success in life are obtained through this element.  

  • Having reliance, self-confidence and self-worth are brought about by the air element. 

  • Happiness and mental health are greatly influenced by balance or imbalance of the air element in the body.  

 

 TREATMENTS FOR THIS ELEMENT INCLUDE: 

  1. We can practice meditation while doing the mudra for air element. It requires you to connect the fingertip of your index finger and the thumb.  

  1. We should try to spend time in nature, around trees and walking barefoot on the grass, etc. 

  1. Have green foodstuffs like leavy vegetables, cucumber, etc. Which improve and bring balance through your diet. 

  1. Enema is proven to be useful as well (under guidance) 

  1. Tub baths along with simultaneous application of a “Patti, or piece of cloth is advised (on the neck, head and stomach). This is to be done twice a day for half an hour daily. You are not supposed to eat anything while doing so. 

  1. All the movements and functions like breathing, blood circulation and so on are supervised by the air element.  

  1. The air element is responsible for the functioning of the excretory system as well.  

Even during pregnancy, the process of pushing out the baby is supported by the air element. Menstrual cycle, flow of your period and PCOD and PCOS issues are influenced by the air element.  

The functioning of the body is said to be at an optimum level when all the five elements of the body are working well and are balanced.  

80% of the diseases caused are due to the air element. As we grow up our habits related to our lifestyle get worse and worse.  

  • Irregularity in the food schedule 

  • Breathing difficulties 

  • Asthma issues and so on are caused due to imbalance or an excess in the air element. 

  • Once you encounter arthritis issues and other problems due to this, it becomes next to never to recover from them.  

  1. You should have exposure to sunlight, consume sesame, and overall have vitamin D in one form or another. Without vitamin D, absorption of vitamin A, B, C and K are difficult. Indians are privileged with plenty of sunlight on an almost daily basis. We should make the most out of it.  

  1. Our body sends signals to tell you what type of issues it is facing. Our biorhythm should be in sync with the sun’s position in the sky.  

  1. The more organized your schedule is the more you are free of diseases.  

  1. Detoxification is required in the intestines and digestive system; it is necessary to remove impurities and boost immunity.  

  1. Have food that’s freshly cooked and not frozen or leftover foodstuffs.  

During childhood, cough is the most prominent problem. Our habits and different routines should be in line with the changing seasons and regions. Massage with sesame oil, consume it through foodstuff too. Since the weight of the entire body is on the feet, massaging it results in increased strength, softness and vitality. Oiling the body on a regular basis daily is very beneficial 

  • It slows aging  

  • Gets rid of fatigue  

  • Increases life span  

  • Encourages natural glow 

  • Provides deep sleep  

  • Prevents diseases.  

Winter season causes the most problems. Before your period, tub bath with your thighs and abdomen soaked in warm water can provide relief from pain.  

Mulethi and ashwagandha are recommended. The strength in the bones due to iron deficiency decreases significantly in women as they reach ages past 35. If women independently take care of themselves beforehand, they’ll be able to handle their health issues well.  

The air element is mainly situated in the large intestine.  

  • Fermented food, white food (Maida), curd, anything sour is to be avoided. You can have raw ginger or ginger in general.  

  • Turmeric milk is also advised 

  • You can have chana either roasted or boiled which makes your regulation system more regular.  

  • Calcium, protein and folic acids in the chana are super beneficial. Fiber and B12 rich foods like apple, Amruth and dry fruits like dates and walnuts are highly recommended.   

Walking at a slow to medium pace for 30-40 mins is essential to maintain a disease-free healthy body. Within 3 months you’ll see the signs and symptoms of health issues gradually dissolving.  

Mud therapy and chanting of the mantra “yum” will cause good movement in the stomach.  

Apan Vayu mudra and other mudras while meditating will help balance air element and issues that come with it. These help with heart-related diseases and overall health maintenance too. 

  • You should avoid consuming chai. Have Methi juice and chew its seeds. Have tomato soup with as many healthy food options as you can add with it.  

  • Horse drum, a kind of dal, decreases the effect of indigestion and should be included in your diet.  

  • Banana and aeriated drinks or cold drinks should never be consumed together. The citric acid and carbonate acid, respectively in them make poison and can be fatal. 

  • Banana, mango, Chikoo and papita increase the problem of vat in the body. If they are grown at home, you can have them.  

  • Accupressure and magnet therapy have proven to be useful.  

  • The feeling of unsatisfaction causes uneasiness in the intestinal area which can lead ti indigestion problems. 

 

The best life lesson is to “Learn from everyone because nobody knows everything, but everybody knows something.”
