EYE DISEASES PART-1
EYE DISEASES PART-1
It is a progressive optic nerve damage, or it can be a group of diseases. Here the nerve damages slowly and progressively. It causes eyesight problems like bad vision, blurriness, or at times no vision or inability to identify objects and faces.

There are 2 major types of laser surgery to treat glaucoma. They help drain the aqueous drain from the eyes.
Trabeculoplasty: this surgery is for people who have open angle glaucoma and can be used instead of or in addition to medications.
Iridotomy: this is for people who have angle closure glaucoma.
NIGHT BLINDNESS
Night blindness or nyctalopia is an inability to see well at night or in poor light such as in a restaurant or movie theater. It is often associated with an inability to quickly adapt from a well-illuminated to a poorly illuminated environment.

What happens to the eye in low light or no light?
Your eyes are constantly adjusting to light. When you’re in low light or no light, your pupils will get bigger or dilate so that more light enters your eyes. That light is then received by the retina that houses the red (they help you see in the dark) and cone cells (they help you see color).
When the rod cells are not working well because of a disease, injury or condition, you can’t see as well or at all in the dark.
The most common causes of glaucoma include:
- Myopia (nearsightedness)
- Glaucoma medications that work by contracting the pupil.
- Cataracts
- Retinitis pigmentosa
- Vitamin A deficiency, especially in individuals who have undergone intestinal bypass surgery.
- Diabetes, etc.
TREATMENT
Treatment for your night blindness depends on the cause. Treatments may be as simple as getting yourself a new eyeglasses prescription or switching glaucoma medications, or it may require surgery if the night blindness is caused by cataracts.
Now, looking through this from a nature cure or NATUROPATHY lens:
- The problems related to your eyes are related to your entire body. You must treat your body as a whole.
- Having a holistic approach shows that your eye health is extremely dependent on your liver health. If your liver is not working properly, the body is unable to produce bile efficiently. The inefficient production of bile prevents the breaking down of fat into smaller matter and the absorption of vitamin A.
- The second factor responsible is your gallbladder health. The concentration of bile in the bladder affects the assimilation of fat.
- The third and most neglected thing in conventional medicine is your gut health. Deficiencies in the body can affect eye health as vitamins and minerals play significant roles in keeping a cell healthy.
- Toxicity or accumulation of toxins is the base of all diseases according to naturopathy. Collon health is a book by Norman W. Walker. It states that every part of your body is connected to your gut.
- Any congestion at this part of the body, or disturbed microbiome in the large intestine makes your body unhealthy. Hence, for appropriate eyecare it is essential to get rid of the root cause of the problem.
Just by incorporating the five elements of nature and the body, you can achieve huge positive results, reverse diseases and help a person get healthier. These five elements are Ether, Air, Earth, Fire and Water. The balance in these elements promotes self-healing, harmony and good health.
ETHER element and EYES:
Whenever we talk about the ether element it implies fasting. Here intermittent fasting is a great option that has multiple benefits as well.
AIR element and the EYES:
Natural breathing is an important part of being healthy to maintain a good vision. The body parts, especially the brain and so the eyes require oxygen to function well. Less oxygen can cause that vision to be negatively affected. Good breathing, good exercise, a good diet brings about good digestion. Yog asanas and pranayama are the key!
FIRE element and the EYES:
Human life can be classified according to its performance, that is, assimilation and elimination.
The uninterrupted continuation of these two acts constitute life. This is made possible through sunlight! (a representation of the fire element). Sungazing and looking at the sun directly with open eyes during early morning and sunsets and eye exercises using your palm, sunbathing and sun basking are all beneficial. Surya Namaskar is also helpful.
WATER element and the EYES:
Water is as good as medicine. It drives away diseases and therefore possesses abilities to heal them right from its roots. Atharva Veda.
The good effects of the methods of water cure are equalization of the bodily heat, pain relief by dispersal of congestions and the temporary increase of flow of vitality.
- Eye cupping
- Wet packs
- Herbal packs
- mud packs (should not have direct contact with eyes)
- Spinal baths (nervous system controls functioning of the entire body)
- Enema (Tona)
All these techniques promote cooling of eyes and cooling in the body in general as well.
EARTH element and the EYES:
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” When it comes to food, it is the fuel to your health, nutrition and wellness. It is true that “you are what you eat.” Your eating habits define the status of your well-being. While treating any ailment, negative valued foods like cereals, pulses, grams, milk, white sugar, white salt, refined oils, etc. should be avoided.
Positive valued items that are rich in vitamins and minerals like seasonal, raw and leafy vegetables, seasonal fruits, Satvik herbs, etc. should be the hero ingredient in one of the foods you consume.
LAW OF VITAL ECONOMY:
It acts as an alternative factor for lost eye health recovery. It will help maintain an appropriate relation between work and digestion. The basic law of digestion implies that work and digestion don’t go hand in hand. After eating it is essential to rest sufficiently.
COLOR BLINDNESS
Color blindness is the condition when you are not able to differentiate between different shades of color, cloth, fruits, vegetables, traffic signals and other such things.

CAUSES OF COLOR BLINDNESS:
- Genetic
- Cone cells of the retina
- No specific reason
- Any other diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, urticaria, medications, etc.
Tests for diagnosing color blindness include physical examination that involves around 27 shades of color.
This eye problem mainly affects pilots, traffic police, IT professionals and civil service employees.

- Emotional and psychological counselling
